Hazard and risk research aims to understand, assess, manage, and mitigate potential threats to human life, property, and the environment. In this video, we team up with Dr Penelope Wilson to explore this in the context of geohazard tourism and the 2019 Whakaari / White Island disaster in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty. We investigate how geographers assess the likelihood and impact of potential hazards, and communicate this to the public using the risk matrix.
