Description

Geographers study how the different systems of our planet interact. This clip encourages students to 'think like a geographer' by considering the interaction of three key areas of physical geography: rivers, glaciation and volcanics.

Geography researcher Dr Richard Waller looks at how the presence of glaciers and volcanic activity influences the nature of river systems. Captured in the field in Iceland, this clip shows a spectacular braided river channel, recently affected by a high magnitude flood event or jokulhlaup, from melting glacier ice during the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajokull.
